"The days and people's affairs urge each other on ceaselessly; Winter Solstice arrives and spring follows suit." (Du Fu's "Minor Solstice"). Winter Solstice is the fourth solar term of winter, which occurs between December 21st and 23rd of the Gregorian calendar. On this day, the sun shines directly on the Tropic of Capricorn, resulting in the shortest day and the longest night in the Northern Hemisphere. After this day, the position of the sun's direct radiation gradually moves northward, causing the days in the Northern Hemisphere to gradually become longer. This is the saying "Each Winter Solstice day, the sun rises higher, and the daylight grows longer by a thread." Ancient people understood seasonal changes based on the movement of Yin and Yang, believing that "Summer ends and autumn equinox comes, while spring begins at Winter Solstice." There is a folk saying that "Winter Solstice brings the Yang qi to life", meaning that from this day on, the Yin and Yang qi begin to reverse, and life activities will become more vigorous.
